Page 1 of 5 Within the Gates A Brief History of Linwood Cemtery Linwood Cemetery is situated in a setting of natural beauty, rolling hills, and overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River. Everyone should know about Linwood Cemetery, not only as a source of civic pride, but because to every citizen, at some point in time, comes the sacred duty of selecting the final resting place for their family. Conceived by a group of foresighted dedicated pioneers who in 1875, foresaw the growth of the area and planned accordingly. Linwood Cemetery has served well the needs of the area since its inception. But still more fortunate is the fact that the founders, a group of unselfish leaders, who secured this site before there was an opportunity for it to be encroached upon, organized an association in which any form of personal profit would be forever prohibited. They then fostered a plan by which the final resting place of all faiths would be protected and cared for throughout the ages. A proportion of the purchase priced of each lot has been, and always will be, set aside in a perpetual care trust fund, the interest from which is used to maintain the grounds and buildings. Linwood Cemetery is managed by a board of trustees who give their services without salaries as a sacred duty to their community.
